A little piece for Liffey…
A little grape called Semillon, found in St-Emilion and Medoc in the Bordeaux region, along with the Sauvignon Blanc grape. Aided by noble rot, the Semillon grape turns itself into a wonderful, unctuous, sweet wine called Sauternes. Simply gorgeous. This is grape royalty.
The flavours of Sauternes are “..marzipan, apricots, mangoes, honey, nuts, toast, honeysuckle…all wrapped up in a creamy, silky, unctuous texture, enthralling and rich…” Oz Clarke
Heaven.

I am passing the bordeaux region on my way to the Pyreneen nest week, so might consider a little shopping stop :-)
Been to the rhone last year, bought some great chateuau neuf du pape. This yoer to friends in the pyreneen and on my way back through the bourgogne (hoehoo!). Missing the village of sauternes, pit... passing it over 100 km away. Have read some about the sweet wines in the wineatlas no.6. Souds great, going to score some at my wine shop in town.
I would say wine tours are more a matter of time then organisation.
ah, chateauneuf du pape, great wines. i tried some hermitage (totally amazing) and chateau grillet (moreso...)...condrieu (white) superb... for the reds, I love that peppery, elegant and balanced taste characteristic of the syrah...
yes, you are probably right - a matter of time.
P.S. Sauternes and foie gras is a marriage in heaven.
