London is great this time of the year. Cold, sunny, blue skies and a touch of frost - very refreshing. Yes, the winter wardrobe is now officially open. Found myself in Borough Market early on Friday, out for lunch. What a great buzz. The market certainly deserves the trendy badge. Attracts the local office clan and manages to offer plenty to the local shoppers with its good selection of food stalls (game, fish, veggies, wines etc.). I took lunch at Tapas Brindisi. Now that’s a popular place.
Seated close to the window, I didn’t regret getting there a tad early. We had the best seats in the house (note: it’s just behind the door next to the umbrella stand). We found ourselves mesmerized by the folks milling about outside, passing us by; the buzz of the restaurant staff and the chatter around the little tapas dishes ordered and their descriptions – oddly, we both felt we had been transported to the continent, in fact, I’ll be more specific to the 11th Arrondissement, enjoying a Sunday morning brunch at Marche Bastille. It’s the closest I’ve been to experiencing real European life, right here in London. Nice.
Ordering their Iberico hams and a selection of tapas, we accompanied it with a great little white Rioja, Vina Izadi 2006. Yummy. A nice little find. The wine was lively, very smoky and oaky with a pronounced fruity nose. Worth having again.
He oversees his kingdom
So no stranger does intrude
His voice it trembles as he calls out
For another plate of food.
One more cup of coffee for the road,
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below
But where to find them … can anyone recommend any decent coffee shops in London, please.... north, south, east or west ...
